As the weekend is now upon us we realise we’re one week closer to getting back to the slopes! Find out where has seen snow this week in our Snow report below!
Excellent skiing for the time of year can be found across the Alps at present, with more and more resorts opening by the day. Low temperatures have kept the slopes in great condition and sunny skies for much of the week have led to great visibility in the mountains. More of the same is expected this weekend, although expect the freezing level to rise to around summit height. A couple more ski areas are set to open up, including Kitzbuhel on Saturday – which is exceptionally early for such a low resort.
Some excellent skiing is on offer with fantastic conditions for the middle of October to be found at Pitztal, Kaunertal, Kaprun and Solden. The latter is hosting the first races of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th on the Rettenbach Glacier – so if you’re in the area don’t miss out!

Les Deux Alpes (50cm) remains set to open on the 24th October, with a sunny spell of weather forecasted for the opening part of next week and good skiing on a base of 50cm. From Wednesday 28th onwards the weather looks likely to change, and with a total of 17cm of snow forecasted at 3600m, there could be some great skiing conditions for the end of the week!
Tignes (80cm) continues to boast very good conditions for early part of the season, with a sunny spell of weather likely to accompany the base of 80cm found at the Grand Motte Glacier for the rest of the week. With the temperatures remain around freezing on the glacier, the skiing should stay good for those that manage head to the upper slopes.
When Cervinia (120 cm) reopens for weekend skiing on Saturday 24th October, it is set to still boast some of the best conditions to be found in Europe. Last week’s snow has kept well and will likely to provide good skiing on well-groomed pistes.
The first snow of the winter has fallen at almost all resorts and snowmaking has started at many. Killington and Sunday River have already opened up a few runs and the resorts of Loveland and Arapahoe Basin in Colorado are not far behind – expect both to open soon!
